Storrito Q&A: How do you use the new link sticker in your Instagram stories?

Want to successfully showcase your brand on Instagram? Then Instagram Stories should be a part of your daily work. In our "Storrito Q&A," we’ll explain everything you need to know about Instagram, Instagram Stories and Instagram marketing.

Today: How do you use the new link sticker in your Instagram stories?

Sharing links on Instagram has never been an easy task. The main reason is that the platform doesn’t allow you to link to anything in your captions under your feed posts.

The most common way to share a link to your website or online shop is to do so within your profile. But in your bio, you can only post one link.

However, verified accounts and profiles with 10,000 followers or more also have another option: they can post links in their stories.

For this reason, Instagram invented the swipe up link. With this feature, Instagram users can share a link in their stories. When someone taps on a swipe up link, the corresponding website opens up automatically.

Then, in September 2021, Instagram officially retired the swipe up link and launched the new link sticker. Instagram had tested the new feature for a few months. During the test phase, the link sticker was available for all accounts, not just those that could already use the swipe up link.

However, the limitation is now back in place, and the link sticker is only available for verified accounts and those with 10,000 followers or more. But Instagram is considering whether to make it available again to more accounts in the future.

How to insert the link sticker in your stories

If you are eligible to use the link sticker, you can insert it while posting your stories.

  1. Open Instagram.
  2. Start creating a story by tapping “Your story” in the upper right corner or by swiping right in your home feed.
  3. To insert the link sticker, tap on the sticker emoji in the menu at the top of your screen.
  4. Tap “Link” and insert the URL you want to share.

What are the advantages?

With the new link sticker, Instagram wants to give you more creative control. Like other stickers, the link sticker can be adjusted in terms of color, size, and positioning.

Instagram also wants to increase engagement within your stories. With the old swipe up feature, your followers could not directly react to your story because the swipe up link was placed at the bottom of your screen.

With the link sticker, the reactions section is available again. Now your followers can send you messages or use the quick reaction emojis.
