Instagram Reels – This is how Instagram's new feature works

Instagram's features are constantly being updated, with new features being added and old ones discontinued. In our “Instagram Guides,” we’ll look at Instagram, explain its new and old features, and show you how to get the most out of the platform for your marketing strategy. Today: Instagram Reels.

Since the end of 2020, Instagram Reels has been introduced in various countries. Instagram Reels allows for creating short, entertaining videos. These videos can be edited directly on Instagram, with options for audio and visual effects, as well as creative tools.

All private accounts can share reels with their subscribers on their feeds. Those who have a public account can share them through their own section in Explore and make them available to all Instagram users.

Create Instagram Reels

The first step is to select “Reels” at the bottom of your Instagram camera. On the left side, you can then choose from different creative tools to edit your videos.

  • Audio: Decide how you want the audio of your video to be. You can do it the old fashioned way and use the original audio from your video recording. Or, you can search the Instagram music library for a song you want to use. If you have a public account, other Instagram users can create reels with your soundtrack by selecting “Use Audio.”
  • AR Effects: Effects in the effects gallery are designed by Instagram and by independent programmers around the world.
  • Align: This feature is all about positioning you and the camera appropriately, even when you're shooting multiple clips. For example, you can create seamless transitions when you change your outfit.
  • Tempo: You can speed up or slow down all or part of your video or audio track. Use it, for example, to keep in time to music or make slow-motion videos.
  • Timer: Once you press the record button, you'll see a countdown before the recording starts and it will run for as long as you set it.

Share Instagram Reels

Once your reels are created and edited, it's time to share your videos. To do so, go to the Share view where you can save your video as a draft, change the cover image, add hashtags, or tag friends.

After you share your reel, it will be saved under a separate Reels tab in your profile where other users can find it. If you share your reel in your feed, it will also appear in your main profile. You also have the option to remove it from there.

As mentioned earlier, there are differences between private and public accounts.

Instagram Reels for Private Accounts

The privacy settings of private accounts have a direct impact on Instagram Reels. These accounts can share their created reels in the feed, but they will only be seen by their own subscribers. Followers cannot share the reels with users who do not follow the account, nor can they use the audio track.

Instagram Reels for Public Accounts

Public accounts also have the option to share their created reels in the feed. Additionally, you can share your reels with all Instagram users through a dedicated section called “Explore” to reach more people. Reels in which you use certain songs, hashtags or effects can also appear on theme pages when someone clicks on the song, hashtag or effect.

Conclusion: Creative opportunity for your Instagram marketing
