Polls have always been a powerful tool for getting to know your customers better. You don't have to ponder and puzzle over what their wishes might be. You can just ask them.

One of the simplest ways to get in touch with your community is by using polls in your Facebook stories. Stories are easily accessible to fans, so there's a low barrier to entry for them to participate.

How to add a poll to your Facebook story

Starting a poll in your Facebook story is as easy as it gets. If you want to ask your followers a closed question, you have two different options to do so.

Start a poll with a picture or video in the background

  1. Open Facebook and tap 'Add Story' at the top of your news feed.
  2. Insert a photo or video as a background for your poll. There are a few ways to get there:
    1. Choose a photo or video from your camera roll.
    2. Tap on the camera symbol and take a photo or record a video.
    3. Record a Boomerang to create your poll background.
  3. Tap the sticker emoji in the right-hand corner at the top of your screen and select 'Poll.'
  4. Type in your question.
  5. By default, the answer options are yes and no. If you want to customize the possible answers, tap either side and change them to your liking.
  6. Tap 'Done.'
  7. You can now add stickers, text, or other effects.
  8. Tap 'Share to Story' to publish your poll.

Start a poll without an image in the background

You can also start your poll right away without adding photos or videos to your story.

Complete step one from above. Then swipe left at the top of your screen, where you have options like 'text' and 'music.' The last option is 'Poll.'

You can now proceed with steps four and five. Afterwards, you can change the background and add stickers, text, or other effects.

How to ask open questions

Your survey options in Facebook Stories are not limited to closed questions. If you want to hear more from your followers, you can also use the 'Questions' sticker.

Here you can ask your question, and your community can give any response they want.

Analyze your poll results

To see the answers to your poll, go to your story and swipe up. Facebook provides information about how many votes you received and who opted for which option.
