What Storrito Error Messages Mean

Most errors messages seen in Storrito are sent from Instagram rather than from Storrito itself, and the wording isn't always a good guide to what actually went wrong. This page lists the messages we see most often, what each one means, and what to do about it.

If your error isn't here, or the same one keeps coming back after you've tried the steps below, send us an error report and we'll take a look.

Errors that usually clear on their own

Payload returned is null. A server error field exception occurred.

Instagram's server sent back an empty or broken response. This is almost always temporary trouble on Instagram's side rather than anything you did.

What to do: Wait a little and retry. The next attempt usually succeeds.

Internal Iteration Limit Reached

The posting process gave up after too many attempts, most often because Instagram's servers were busy. Your connection isn't broken.

What to do: Don't reconnect. Wait at least 2 hours and retry.

ThrottledException

Instagram has temporarily rate-limited the requests coming from your account.

What to do: Wait around 30 minutes before trying again.

InvalidUserException

Despite the name, this doesn't mean anything is wrong with your account. This means Instagram didn't like the connection route used for that particular attempt.

What to do: Retry, since a fresh attempt typically uses a different route.

Login and password errors

IncorrectPasswordException

Instagram rejected the login password. This error typically appears when the password was changed recently.

What to do: Confirm the current password by logging into your Instagram account from your browser or the mobile app, then reconnect. See Resolving Incorrect Password Errors for further information.

Invalid2FACodeException

The two-factor code entered was wrong. This often means the code came from the wrong source, for example an authenticator app when the account is set to SMS, or the other way around.

What to do: Check which 2FA method is active on your Instagram account and make sure to use the code from that source. We recommend using or switching to an authenticator app. See How To Set Up Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) For Instagram Using An Authenticator App for further information on setting up 2FA with an authenticator app.

LoginRequiredException

The Instagram session expired part-way through posting. Storrito retries automatically once when this happens.

What to do: If it keeps recurring, reconnect the account. Why Your Instagram Account Might Disconnect From Storrito covers the usual causes.

challenge_required

Instagram is asking for human verification that can't be completed automatically.

What to do: Open the Instagram app, complete the verification or security check there, then reconnect. See Confirming Login Attempts On Instagram for more details.

Missing2faSecretException

Storrito can store a 2FA key for your Instagram account so that it generates your login codes for you. This is optional, and plenty of accounts are connected without one.

If you do have a key stored in Storrito, this error means it's missing or no longer valid. The usual cause is 2FA being switched off and set up again on Instagram, which issues a brand new key and stops the old one working.

What to do: Add your current 2FA key to Storrito and reconnect the account. See How To Set Up Storrito 2FA for further details. If you don't use Storrito's built-in 2FA and you're seeing this error, send us an error report and we'll take a look.

InvalidUsernameException

The username Storrito is trying to log in with no longer exists on Instagram. This almost always means the account was renamed after it was connected.

What to do: Check the current username on the Instagram account, then reconnect it to Storrito so the new username is stored.

Instagram restrictions and cooldowns

Try Again Later/We restrict certain activity

Instagram's temporary anti-automation cooldown has been applied to the account.

What to do: Pause posting on this Instagram account for 24 to 72 hours. Avoid repeated retries, which extend the block. How To Post Stories: Best Practices covers the posting patterns that can trigger this.

AccountDisabledException

The Instagram account itself has been disabled or suspended by Instagram.

What to do: Check your Instagram account status in the Instagram app under Settings → Account Status and/or submit an appeal. See How To Check Your Instagram Account Status for further details.

AccountUploadRestrictedException

Instagram has restricted uploads for this account.

What to do: Check your Instagram account status in the Instagram app under Settings → Account Status and wait out the restriction before posting again. See How To Check Your Instagram Account Status for further details.

Publishing errors

UploadFailedException (All configuration retries have failed)

The final publishing step failed after several retries. Be aware that the Story may still have been published.

What to do: Check your Instagram profile before you re-post, so you don't end up with a duplicate.

When there's no error message at all

A post is stuck on Posting

When this happens, you'll see a Story trying to post but nothing happens and no error message appears.

What to do: Give it 30 minutes before treating it as failed, since a post can still complete after a delay. If it's still stuck after that, check the Instagram profile, because the Story may have published even though Storrito never registered it as finished. If it isn't there, check whether the Instagram account is still connected and reconnect if it isn't.

Please don't delete the stuck post before contacting us. It's the main piece of evidence we have for working out what happened.

If the profile is empty and the connection looks fine, send us an error report with the Instagram account name and the time you scheduled the post for. That's usually enough for us to trace it.
