Two Hacks to Add Invisible Hashtags to your Instagram Stories

Are you putting a lot of time and effort into your Instagram stories but not getting a lot of views in return? Then it’s time to start adding invisible hashtags to your stories! In this post, we will look at how hashtags can be helpful for your brand and show you how to add invisible hashtags on Instagram Stories.

Let’s be honest: creating Instagram stories takes a lot of work! You have to put in some time to come up with engaging content as well as take the perfect pictures and edit them. There is even more work involved if you record videos.

So, it’s understandable that you don’t want all that time and effort to go to waste. That’s why you should use hashtags in your stories! They increase the chances of people who don’t follow you finding your content.

How do hashtags work on Instagram Stories?

Hashtags work a little differently in stories from how they work in regular posts.

When you include hashtags in the caption of a regular post, your post automatically ends up in the public hashtag feed for those hashtags—as long as you have your profile set to public. Users can then find your post when they look up a certain hashtag, even if they are not following you.

So, adding hashtags to your Instagram posts is essential for increasing your brand’s visibility. If your post shows a lot of engagement, it will push the post to the top nine images for a particular hashtag, which greatly increases the chances of people seeing your post.

You can also add hashtags on Instagram Stories. However, adding a hashtag doesn’t automatically place your story in the public aggregation, as it does with regular posts. Getting added to the public hashtag feed depends on how much engagement your story generates, and also on the video or image quality of the post.

So is it even worth it? Yes!

Because, including hashtags in your stories at least gives you the chance to end up in the public hashtag feed where your posts can be seen by other users, as opposed to stories without hashtags, which won’t end up in the feed, and can therefore only be seen by your followers. So it’s definitely worth a try!

How to add hashtags to your Instagram story

There are basically two ways to add hashtags to your story. You can either add them through the text field, or you can use the interactive hashtag sticker.

There is a downside though to adding visible hashtags to your story: they take up a lot of space. It can also be annoying to move them around the screen until you finally find the perfect position for them, so they don’t cover up anything important in your post.

And if you use more than one hashtag, they can take up so much space that it might become difficult to still convey your message. Also, hashtags can look odd when their design doesn’t fit the artistic style of your post. This is where invisible hashtags come in!

Two hacks for adding invisible hashtags to your story

An invisible hashtag is a bit like a secret hashtag that you include in your story, but is not visible right away to viewers. It’s still possible for stories with hidden hashtags to end up in the hashtag aggregation, yet you don’t have to worry about a hashtag covering up anything in your post or sticking out like a sore thumb.

There are two hacks to make tags “invisible” on Instagram stories. One is to position them to the side, so they are “out of the picture.” However, this does make them unclickable.

The second option is to place them as you normally would in your story, but then use the pencil icon to paint them over in the same color as your background. These hashtags are still in your post, and can still be clicked, but they can’t be seen.

Of course, if you choose this option, you have to place your hashtag over a single colored background, which limits where you can place your tags in a story.

However, there is actually a third option for including invisible hashtags: Storrito.

Adding truly invisible hashtags with Storrito

Storrito is an online tool for editing and scheduling Instagram stories. Most of the features from Instagram Stories are included on Storrito, such as adding interactive stickers to your stories. However, Storrito also has a feature that the Instagram app doesn’t offer: making your story hashtags truly invisible.

It allows you to:

  • place your hashtags wherever you want
  • make the tags as big or as small as you like
  • include hashtags in videos as well

Since Storrito also works on desktop computers, there is also no more fiddling around with your fingers to find the best position for your hashtags.

And the best part is: Including a secret hashtag only takes five simple steps.

  1. Create an account with Storrito, connect your Instagram account with Storrito and upload your image or mp4 video to your Storrito gallery. Click on “Edit” to open the editor.
  2. Now add a text object to your post.
  3. Type your #awesomeshashtag. Make sure not to type anything else besides the hashtag, otherwise it will not work.
  4. Place and scale it however you want.
  5. Click on the “Textcolor” button, and select the color with the red plus sign (transparent).

After saving your post, you can post your story. The hidden tags will still be clickable in the app, but remain truly invisible. Try it out for yourself!
